Waihuena Farm is proud to be working each year with organizations such as Sustainable Coastlines, to help with waste diversion and to serve as the compost site for the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing and Volcom Pipe Pro contests. This year, weʻre fortunate to be hosting SustainableCoastlineʻs Education Station at the farm, a 20ft container converted into a mobile classroom.
In providing Waste Diversion Education at the contest, Sustainable Coastlines has placed trash diversion receptacles throughout the contest site. Their goal is to provide contestants, staff, and spectators the ability to separate their debris into recyclable, compostable, and trash streams. Last year, they diverted close to 70% of all debris. After lunch on each contest day they will be providing a beach sweep cleanup making sure that we keep debris from entering the ocean as a result of carelessness and offshore winds. Please give them a big mahalo when you see them and join-in by cleaning up the area around you.
